Connection - view from Murray's Trail, Booderee NP, Jervis Bay
76cm x 95cm
Oil on Linen
Since I was very young, I've found making art to be a way to express how I feel about the land. In a sense, it is my way of exploring the depths of a connection I sometimes struggle to explain in words.
When I moved to Jervis Bay from the Upper Blue Mountains, I had a new landscape to explore. But life was rushed for a while and although I appreciated the beauty I was surrounded by, I found a deeper sense of connection to be somewhat elusive. On the day I sat in this spot and made reference sketches and photos... I finally felt the stirring of that deep feeling I was familiar with.
So for me, this painting is a reminder of that day, of slowing down enough to hear, feel and connect with the land, and of the beginning of a new relationship to my local area.
