Out of jail, November 1901, Pat was furious to find the family destitute thanks to the ‘high-flying’ of Jimmy. So began a ‘booty-binge’ in February 1902 that tallied over forty horses for the Kenniffs. No one was going to stop them—not even Constable George Doyle, who stared along the Colt revolver barrel into the eyes of Paddy Kenniff.
Luckily, Paddy’s bravado wilted under questioning.
But, Doyle needed identification of one particular mare—from Snelling, manager of Merivale. His question on arrival at Merivale, “Is Snelling home?” received a negative answer. Eight days later in Mitchell, Doyle was in for a shock.
