"I have always enjoyed sharing the world I see with others, whether it is through teaching or creating visual works in watercolour, oils or acrylics.

I paint places that have a personal story, or moments in time that capture light, colour and movement. These often focus on the things I enjoy – waves, beautiful scenes in the local area and the relationship between water and land. There’s a memory of that morning when the surf was perfect, or the sunrise was spectacular, or the view was stunning. That’s what I love capturing in a painting.

I’ve worked in water colour and oils, more recently in acrylic. I exhibited my work many years ago while studying at Regent College in Vancouver BC, Canada. The proceeds of those sales bought me a ticket home! And it’s home, the beautiful south coast, that gives me joy, and that’s why I paint."

  • Andrew McPhail, original painting, Tucked into the south end of the Farm is the rip along the rocks. Swell pumps in directly from the deep south and hits the sand bar next to the rip. Only the very experienced are out on days like this – no room for mals or SUPS! I loved the colour contrast between the wave’s tube and the dark basalt of the headland to the north.
