"I have always enjoyed sharing the world I see with others, whether it is through teaching or creating visual works in watercolour, oils or acrylics.

I paint places that have a personal story, or moments in time that capture light, colour and movement. These often focus on the things I enjoy – waves, beautiful scenes in the local area and the relationship between water and land. There’s a memory of that morning when the surf was perfect, or the sunrise was spectacular, or the view was stunning. That’s what I love capturing in a painting.

I’ve worked in water colour and oils, more recently in acrylic. I exhibited my work many years ago while studying at Regent College in Vancouver BC, Canada. The proceeds of those sales bought me a ticket home! And it’s home, the beautiful south coast, that gives me joy, and that’s why I paint."

  • Andrew McPhail, original painting, One afternoon visiting a friend out the back of Kiama, I stopped on the side of the road to take in the beauty and power of the view. Afternoon storms were rolling in from the west. This pine tree stands tall and strong. More than a survivor, it represents generations past and the holds the possibility of living well beyond my life time.
