A Long Walk South
59cm x 27cm
Oil on Canvas
Hand Crafted Blackbutt timber floating frame
This piece captures a quiet, sunlit afternoon on the beach at Brooms Head, looking south toward the distant sand dune — a place deeply familiar to me. It's a stretch of coastline where few venture far, but one I’ve come to know intimately through countless walks with my dog. The rhythmic sound of the surf, the play of light on stone and sand, and the solitary journey south have become part of my daily ritual while visiting my parents’ place not far away.
What struck me most, and inspired this painting, were the fleeting paw prints left behind — delicate impressions on the smooth, golden sand, momentarily preserved in time before the tide returns. A Long Walk South is not just a seascape; it's a quiet record of presence, memory, and companionship in one of nature’s most peaceful places.
