This painting captures a rugged stretch of coastline where crashing waves meet jagged rocks under a brightening sky. Inspired by the interplay of light and shadow, I aimed to contrast the dark, shadowed foreground with the luminous turquoise wave breaking in the sunlight. The composition draws the eye through the dynamic movement of water, softened by the mist and framed by sunlit cliffs. It reflects my focus on realism—particularly the challenge of capturing ocean light and the raw textures of nature in motion.
The reference images for this piece was kindly donated by my teacher Andrew Tischler and is from a coastal area in New Zealand.
